Belated Birthday Wishes!
Happy Birthday Elayna!
I hope someone got you a bed for your special day cause the tub doesn't look so comfortable! :-)
Growing up with Elayna was somethin', she was the thirstiest child EVER and very particular about what color cup she'd use. (bluey)
Thank goodness she can get her own drink now! ;-)
And once, when we were quite young, she hurt her leg real bad, and I carried her all the way home. That's how much I love her.
Happy Birthday Elvis!
Not only did I grow up listening to Elvis' music but I grew up with Elvis!
My little brother who played baseball, and when I tried to play with him, he pitched the ball so hard it hurt way too much.
And he was young then.
I can't believe how old my younger siblings are getting!
Babies and First Birthday Cakes
A couple of months ago I had the pleasure (and by pleasure I mean I was totally freaked out because I had just attempted to make a cake for my daughter and it was a disaster and I was coming to terms with the fact that this was NOT a talent of mine and yet I wanted this to be fabulous) of making my nephew's first birthday cake.
As I wondered what B's reaction to his cake would be I remembered all of my children's first birthday cakes and enjoyed reminiscing about that important day and moment.
Wesley
Wesley's first birthday cake was my first birthday cake as a momma. In other words, I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't have the confidence to make it myself and yet I didn't know what I was doing when I ordered the darn thing. They said, "Whole sheet or half sheet?" and I didn't know what that meant so he got a cake that was bigger than his highchair tray and it was just he and his parents eating it.
I remember he started by picking off the sprinkles on the cake but it didn't take long for him to go for a fist full.
When Nolan turned 1, I had gained some confidence and made his cake. This is sadly the only picture that turned out. I was having flash problems. I remember he pretty much had confidence in eating the cake too and a mess was made by him and his brother.
Rae
On Rae's 1st birthday I made her cake too.
I have many pictures of the birthday party, but not of her devouring this bad boy.
I recall her picking off pieces one at a time, just like her big bubba did with his sprinkles.
Naomi
When Naomi turned one I heard about this local grocer's bakery that had free birthday cakes for 1st birthdays. I checked it out and found this cute little cake that fit perfect, or so I thought. Her birthday is in October and it was a little Jack-O'lantern cake that was cute and smiley.
She was not so sure about it.
And she wanted out!
So her big brothers and sister showed her how to do it, and that's it's okay.
And mom gave her a spoon so she wouldn't have to touch a scary cake with her hands.
And that was that. She hardly left a crumb.
Zoe
Zoe had a dainty little cake with a pretty little flower on top. Just right for her...
...For her to dig in. Zoe's never been afraid of sugar.
